Top 10 Con Men Films

By Aaron and Bob 9/26/2008

Among the bajillion movies coming out this weekend is Choke, the movie adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk’s novel of the same name. It looks over-the-top entertaining in a way that Palahniuk was just beginning to get to in Fight Club and stars the hilarious Sam Rockwell who plays a guy who fakes choking to death to get strangers to pay for his rich lifestyle. When I remembered that Sam Rockwell had been a con-men before, I realized I had to break down the top ten con men films.

Watch Before Burning

By Bob 9/22/2008

In Burn After Reading, Joel and Ethan Coen create a film that is a stark contrast to last year’s widely praised No Country For Old Men, but also a film that is what we have all grown to expect from the brothers when they are at the top of their game. In other words, Burn After Reading is a darkly funny noir that is firmly entrenched in its setting and features deeply idiotic characters who we never want to run across.

The Very Best of Samuel L. Jackson

By Bob and Aaron 9/18/2008

The only movie coming out this weekend that looks marginally interesting is Lakeview Terrace.  This looks to be a horribly funny [as in so bad it's funny] film that stars the one and only Samuel L. Jackson. Despite an early career Oscar nomination for Pulp Fiction, Jackson has gone on to play some of the most badass roles of the past twenty years and his current film appears to be no different. By Bob 9/10/2008

Now that the summer movie season is officially over, the leaves will be changing colors soon, and Oscar bait movies will undoubtedly appear. Usually September starts out pretty barren (see last weekends output), but this month has several interesting films coming up that I am certainly going to make an effort to see (as long as their limited releases are expanded wide). But let’s start from the bottom again and see what’s in store:

5 Thoughts On Entourage 5.01: Fantasy Island

By Bob 9/8/2008

After a years worth of waiting, Entourage finally returned to HBO this Sunday, and Vince and the boys were in a place we have never seen them before: separated.  With Vince and Turtle hiding out in Mexico, E and Drama are left back in LA.  E to manage his business and Drama as the star of what appears to be the multi-season hit show Five Towns.  Here are five thoughts on last night’s episode:

Some Tropic, and a Little Thunder
By Bob 9/8/08
Tropic Thunder was probably the best comedy of the summer, but that’s not saying all that much considering the lackluster comedic output this summer. In fact, the film certainly ranks behind Forgetting Sarah Marshall for the year. Like Pineapple Express before it, Tropic Thunder is an inconsistent film that includes several great scenes and many awfully unfunny ones.
